Why my life sucks
You can be sad, but you should know why you are sad.
The reason why you are sad is that you took a temporary solution to be happy.
Arthur Schopenhauer said in Wisdom of Life,
“A good life is not about getting what makes you happy, it is about getting RID of what makes you sad.”
For example, if you are a worker and you got a raise, you get an instantaneous thrill. But when you get used to it, you would want more to get the same thrill. Then, you would want even more to get the same thrill.
This is an endless rat race of desire in getting what makes you happy. This is not a long-lasting solution to getting a good life.
On the flip side, if you have a toxic friend that always puts you down, he/she makes you sad every day.
Getting rid of him/her would make you NOT SAD every day.
The contrast between sad and not sad is much more noticeable and long-lasting than happy and happier.
Henceforth, the reason why you are sad is that you are trying to get what makes you happy, rather than getting rid of what makes you sad.
So, try and write a list of people and things that make you happy and sad in two different columns.
