While the play was written over 400 years ago, its themes and lessons are still relevant today, especially in America. In this article, I will argue that the tragic lessons of King Lear can teach us about the dangers of arrogance and lack of empathy in America, which could lead to its downfall.
The Consequences of Arrogance
King Lear’s arrogance and refusal to listen to his advisors ultimately lead to his downfall. He is blinded by his own pride and ignores the wisdom of those around him. Similarly, America has been guilty of arrogance in its foreign policy and domestic politics.
