The gradual rise, not sudden change
So I was telling myself to wake up at 5am for the past week and obviously every morning I ended up waking up at 1130 or later, namely no change in lifestyle.
A month ago, I told myself that writing everyday didn’t work either.
However, when I told myself to stop caring about the quality and word count of my writing and just focus on typing in the morning and at night, things started to change.
I started to type. Yes, I slacked off a bit and missed a few days, but I was never reluctant to type. Courtesy of Atomic Habits, habits can only be formed if the things you want to do are easy.
In order to trick your brain into doing something you don’t like now, you have to make it easy. So easy that it is not justifiable to not do it.
You slowly evolve to do something more. But the start has to be small, then gradually adding more to it.
I was having a slumpy day and started walking. I walked to a park and figured that the warm sun and harmonious ambience shall be the perfect opportunity to meditate. I couldn’t refuse this offer, and so I did.
Before I realised it, it had been thirty minutes.
