Read Magazines, not newspapers
When I talk about magazines, I don’t mean tabloids, I mean news and opinions on updated issues.
The reason why newspapers are trash is that there are too many newspaper outlets, yet too little time for them to beautify their work. Between garnering the information and churning out the news articles, there is only a 12 hour or less gap. In order to stand out from other competitors, the only way is to make it delusionally appealing, or infuriating.
If it promotes extreme hope or extreme fear, viewers would want to see more about them, therefore they click. More clicks, more ads, more money.
This is inconsistent with and unrepresentative of reality.
Instead of submerging your head into the newspaper world, I would recommend monthly or weekly magazines with the likes of Bloomberg BusinessWeek or The Economist.
They have time to ponder upon the information that has been collected by colleagues, editors have time to beautify and ameliorate the articles. Quality is therefore better.
After all, you don’t need to know the next dying baby news the day after. You can wait a week.
On top of that, magazine sales are mostly based on loyal customers. They don’t have to have flamboyant titles, or in most cases, infuriating titles, to attract eyeballs. They can have the pendulum more tilted towards the content side.
That’s why I have a mad prejudice for magazines. Newspapers just make me want to tear them up.
