I am a nihilist, here’s why.
When we say “nihilist”, we mean “existential nihilist”, meaning existing bears no meaning. Just like “steak”, unless specified, we assume it to be beef.
As a nihilist, I don’t think anything, or any endeavours of mine bear any meaning at all. When this idea is cemented, most people struggle to be happy. Sometimes even questioning the “WHY” to live, and therefore become suicidal.
“Existing” has no meaning. No meaning objectively. You cannot change anything during and after your lifespan. You living, not living, they ain’t going to change the course of the history of the universe.
When we talk about the “butterfly effect”, yes your existence will “change” things.
Throw away the Laplace's Demon (the idea that everything is a chain of cause and effect that makes “free will” a fiction), and just talk about “changes”.
You going to the park instead of being a waste man at home will “change” things. The couple that saw you alone in the park will go to another park to make out. The chain of events will “change” because of you “existing differently”.
