1984: A few takeaways
Here’s the introduction. Two takeaways from 1984 that can be applied to everyday life. Introduction done.
Double thinking
Even though numerous residents under the control of the party knows for a fact that the plane ain’t created by the party, and existed way before the formation of the party, they will accept this fact, and convince themselves that it is a fact, even though knowing it is not a fact.
Neither of which is “false” and both of them are “true”. This is double thinking.
Besides the political application of double thinking from 1984, I think I can apply this to my everyday life as a student.
Even though you know for a fact that having a degree is a mere form of conformity, and you despise conformity, you would still work your tails off to get a degree. Even though you know that getting a degree is money-burning and not cost-effective, you would still crave a degree.
This is because the idea of “getting a degree” is so ingrained in our minds, that if we don’t do it, we are therefore the “outcast” and “weirdo”.
